Yandex Smart IP Camera.
This is a short story about how we created the first Yandex smart camera. Many specialists worked on it in order to create the best product for users. As usual, it all starts with research and analysis.
Research and analysis
After analyzing the market, our team started designing, it was important to take into account all aspects of the future product, which were reflected in the product requirements document.
Archetype
After forming expectations from the design, we started designing, asking ourselves questions along the way, how would it work better? Which type of construction best meets the requirements?
The result was three archetypes that had to be tested for compliance with all standards and expectations, both in terms of design and cost, because when producing a mass product, we must keep in mind the business component.
The archetype was the most consistent with all the requirements laid down and was therefore chosen to continue developing the design.
The main visual element of the design of the Yandex and Alice Smart device language is minimalism and basic primitives at the heart of shaping. In this project, we also made split lines part of the design, as this allowed us to focus on details and simplify production and assembly. Artificial seams hide the real ones, which gives the camera precision in lines and details.
One of the most important features of the camera should be the privacy function, so that when the user comes home, Alice would turn off the camera, because while the owner is at home, this is not necessary. This device is primarily a home device, so it was important for us to maintain privacy at the level of sensations. We also had to design not only the user experience, but also how it works in real life, without complicated designs and incomprehensible effects.
The result of this stage of design development were two directions of the chosen archetype, one of which was chosen to continue the project.
