Что мы потеряли. Outline, увы, не случился
Just a few hours before the opening, the organizers of Outline 2026 announced the cancellation of the festival.
According to the official version, the administration of the Taldomsky District made this decision due to the threat of drone attacks. The festival was scheduled to take place from July 21 to July 27 on the banks of the Dubna River in the Moscow region.

Alongside the music program, audiences experienced arguably the most ambitious art program in Outline’s history. Curator Sabina Chagina and studio founder Alexander Us unified the art projects into a single tour across the entire festival grounds.
For me, the most important thing is art in public space. This season, we exhibited three projects, each of which was created specifically for that site and existed only in relation to it.

On the opposite bank from the viewer, Vladimir Abikh has installed a new piece titled «Present Time» on the Dubna River—a continuation of his «Subtitles» series. For several years, the artist has been creating site-specific texts that exist only in one particular location. They do not describe the landscape; rather, they seem to articulate it. The artist’s intent was for the viewer to pause, read the phrase «Present Time, ” and only then listen to the sound of the river, which was intended to become part of the artwork.
The route then led to the Art Zone, where Sabina Chagina, together with curator Kostya Serp, prepared the exhibition «The Limit of Chaos.» Twenty-five artists were given one question: where is the boundary between order and chaos, and can chaos exist within a structured system? There were twenty-five answers. One of the works was intended to be an installation by Alexandra Kuznetsova: a chair and a sofa stuffed with pieces of concrete and asphalt and bound with orange straps. Vasily Kudryavtsev was going to present a photograph of a giant hemlock over which clouds of colored smoke are bursting. And Sasha Sorokina—an installation made of glowing lightboxes featuring images of wildflowers.

The final point of the route was the festival’s main stage. This is where «Infochelovek» (Info-Person) by Aristarkh Chernyshev—one of the pioneers of Russian media art—was meant to appear. The sculpture, shaped like a human figure assembled from a scrolling text line, only exists when it receives external information. On the Outline, it was supposed to be filled with messages, conversations, and random phrases from the festival guests themselves.
Now, try to walk this path in your mind. Close your eyes. Imagine stopping by the Dubna River, reading Abikha’s line, and listening to the water. Then, turn into the Art Zone, where twenty-five artists debate the nature of chaos. Afterward, exit to the main stage, where the «Information Man» begins speaking with the voices of the audience. This was meant to be the central artistic work of Outline 2026. Unfortunately, no one managed to experience it.
