We perceive the cashier as a part of the checkout process: «beep, bag needed, card accepted, next.» We come for five minutes, but for her, those five minutes amount to hundreds each day. The concept of the zine is a shift in perspective. Usually, we view the checkout from the customer’s point of view, but here we see the customers through the cashier’s eyes. We become the background, and the central focus becomes the person who views us as irritated, funny, or lonely.
