Shishbarak

Shishbarak is a vibrant, fantastic comedy short film set in Kiryat Ono, Israel. The story follows Zohar, a lazy and unmotivated young woman who lives with her spirited Jewish-Syrian grandmother, Devora, a secret witch. Their lives are upended when Devora is injured in a magical mishap, and Ossi, a rigid welfare officer, threatens to force her into a nursing home unless Zohar can prove she can provide a stable income. With no other choice, Zohar is forced to step up and embrace her dormant magical heritage to save her comfortable life. Together, the two open an illegal Shishbarak (a traditional Syrian dish) stand that becomes a local sensation. However, the mission is complicated by Sue, a social media star leading a public crusade to «clean the streets of magic.» For Zohar, the stakes are painfully high: Sue is her secret girl crush. As the magical aroma of Shishbarak fills the air, Zohar must navigate her family’s legacy, her hidden identity, and the heart of the girl leading the charge against her.
